We truly do live in paradise, but how often do we take time to actually enjoy it? On a recent Instagram poll, I asked my followers how many were looking to getaway and 80% of you said YES! While travel is still at an all-time low due to COVID-19, Floridians are looking to vacation right in their backyard and taking advantage of amazing offers/deals available to them. Zota Beach Resort on Longboat Key is offering up to 30% off accommodations through June 30 as well as 50% off of your accommodation each night after your first two nights with their Opal Staycation package. Here’s a look at our mid-week staycation and where to eat (this is a food blog, don’t think we forgot about the eats)!
Zota Beach Resort sits on its own private beach and is only about a 30-minute drive north from Sarasota. The 187-room reflects the laidback elegance of Florida’s Gulf Coast with hints of aqua blue and coastal modern furniture. Each room comes with a balcony either overlooking the ocean or the pool, a mini fridge (it fit a bottle of champagne perfectly in the shelf on the door), and some even provide a sleeper sofa. The hotel is also pet-friendly which is always a plus.
*The hotel is taking serious precautions to travelers staying on property by offering various hand sanitizing stations, no housekeeping or entry into your room, as well as signs on each table by the pool identifying which ones have been sanitized.
Here's a quick video of our room where you can hear the waves crashing in the background (take me back)! Can't forget the bubbly <3
Unfortunately, Viento Kitchen & Bar is temporarily closed for lunch, but dinner is offered on the weekends. Breakfast is available daily, and Cascades Pool Bar is open serving up delicious frozen drinks like the Pina Colada I ordered (with a floater, duh). The pool sits in the middle of the hotel with private beach access where guests can rent beach chairs and umbrellas at an additional cost. We decided to hang by the pool and soak up some much needed sunshine.
For dinner, we ventured over to the new Shore LBK only a 10 min drive from the hotel. This Al fresco coastal eatery sits right at the waters edge with stunning views of the Gulf (highly recommend dining around sunset hour). Boaters can dock up and dine as they offer a public pier! Creative recipes are their specialty, combined with local favorites, all served in an open-air dining space.
We started off with Lobster, Shrimp & Crab Cobb salad which was picture perfect and oh so delicious, for the main dish I had Shrimp & Scallop with lemon risotto and the hubby ordered the Spice Grilled Black Angus Filet Mignon. To finish our exceptional dinner, we opted for the vanilla crème brulee cheesecake!
Another new eatery out on LBK, is Whitney's. A cute roadside bodega that serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner. We headed over the next morning before checking out to try their ricotta donuts and frose!
I guess you can say we were a little hungry because we ended up ordering the donuts, the breakfast bowl and their breakfast Sammy which was to die for! Over easy egg with spicy marmalade, bacon, manchego cheese and greens on a toasted bun. Definitely make the drive out to Longboat Key to visit this cute vintage Florida hidden gem.
